Academic Support

Academic support is a core focus in Youth for Greater Good (YFGG), we believe education is an important tool that aides sustainability and advancement for a community and individuals. In partnership with various community organizations, colleges and universities Youth for Greater Good provides a diverse array of programming and academic support to youth of all ages. Our After-School programs targets youth in need of extra support outside of school hours to feel motivated and equipped to excel academically and in life. We understand the unique obstacles of the youth we serve and make it a point to address environmental and home barriers that hinder their success. YFGG is committed to providing top quality programs that will enrich, engage and inspire, always putting our participants at the forefront. Scholar Study Sessions

Each week YFGG host "Scholar Study Sessions" that's open to the public where youth can come and spend a few hours in a productive space equipped with the tools they need to simply get some work done! Whether you're just looking for computer use, in need of internet, a quiet space to study and do homework, or 1-on-1 tutoring, whatever it may be our Scholar Study Sessions is the place for you. Our goal is to promote a culturally inclusive space that produces high-yielding productivity and motivation.

Senior Night

Whether a senior aims to go straight to college after graduation, in-state or out of state, enter the workforce, pursue a trade, or is completely undecided, our YFGG Senior Nights was founded to alleviate the stress and anxiety that comes with graduating. Once a month seniors in our community come together for power hours based on specific topics pertaining to their needs followed by continued mentoring and check in. Students receive resources and information such as our scholarship packets and together we create a realistic action with hopes of building confidence and direction for each student as they graduate onto the next phase in their life.

College Support Program

The first year as a college student can be daunting! Our YFGG College support program is in place to provide academic, emotional, and mental support for students. Regardless of what school a student attends, they're surrounded by other first generation college students with a common goal to succeed. Students have volunteer and leadership opportunities and participate in programming, events, and activities that focus on self awareness, career exploration, academic success, advocating for self, and ensuring they are taking advantage of safe proactive student life during their college experience.

YFGG College Visits

We seek for refugee youth to see higher education as a possibility. Outside financial barriers there are many other obstacles at play that can hinder a students chances of attending college. Visiting a higher educational institution in person can heighten a students ability to visualize themselves there. Our college visits are a yearly tool used to show youth that college is possible! We emphasize having South Sudanese and refugee tour guides and engage in conversations that pertain to the unique obstacles of the students we serve to address their particular fears and doubt. They are opened to the public and we encourage many to participate at any level!

Laptop Giveaway

As the world continues to head down a more technological age, its important the gap between lower income students and access to technology is addressed. We do our part here at YFGG by giving away laptop to graduating seniors and college students. Through the support of our generous donors we are able to conduct an application process to select a student in need of a laptop for school. Students that show a need for a laptop and show to fight against the odds and persistent through challenges are welcome to apply and be considered for a free laptop giveaway.

Terese Svaboda x YFGG Cultural Heritage Scholarship

To further our work in academically supporting youth and aiding their academic journey, each year graduating seniors can apply for the Cultural Heritage Scholarship. This Nebraska based scholarship that goes towards their tuition focuses on South Sudanese youth and supporting literacy..
